Venus of Dolní Věstonice Print

Another Venus to add to your collection. The Dolní Věstonice Venus dates to 29,000-25,000 BCE and was found at the Palaeolithic site Dolní Věstonice in the Moravian basin, now located in the Czech Republic. She has the same morphology as other Venus figurines, but she is made from clay fired at a relatively low temperature. Further analysis found a fingerprint of a child, estimated between the ages of 7 and 15 years of age, had been fired into the surface of the figurine and so could possibly be her maker.

Interestingly enough, a number of other figures were found at the site of Dolní Věstonice including bear, lion, mammoth, horse, fox, rhino and owl.
